Landing page views

Landing page views count the times someone clicked your ad's link and the destination page or Instant Experience actually loaded. They sit between link clicks and on-site actions, so they show how many clicks turned into real visits.

Also called: landing page views, LPVs, cost per landing page view, landing page view rate

Formula

Landing page view rate = landing page views ÷ link clicks

900 landing page views from 1,200 link clicks = a 75% landing page view rate. The other 300 clicks never saw the page.

Landing page views (LPVs) count the times a person clicked your ad link and the page they were sent to actually finished loading. For a website, Meta knows the page loaded because the Meta Pixel fired on it. That makes landing page views the closest Ads Manager number to a real visit.

Why landing page views matter

A link click only tells you someone tapped. A landing page view tells you they arrived. The difference between the two is a direct read on how much of your paid traffic you lose before anyone sees your product. On mobile data connections, a heavy page, a chain of redirects or a pop-up that blocks the page can lose a meaningful share of the clicks you paid for.

How to calculate the landing page view rate

Divide landing page views by link clicks for the same ad and date range.

Link clicks Landing page views LPV rate What it suggests
1,000 850 85% Healthy, most clicks arrive
1,000 600 60% Check page speed and redirects
1,000 300 30% Likely a tracking fault or a broken page

There is no official benchmark, and the rate varies with audience, device and country, so compare against your own history. A sudden drop with no change to the ads usually means something changed on the site.

Worked example

Example: you pay ₹10 per link click and 1,200 clicks lead to 840 landing page views.

  • LPV rate = 840 ÷ 1,200 = 70%
  • Cost per landing page view = (1,200 × ₹10) ÷ 840 ≈ ₹14.30

If speeding up the page lifts the LPV rate to 85%, the same spend buys 1,020 visits and the cost per visit falls to about ₹11.80, without touching the ads.

Landing page views as an optimisation goal

Traffic campaigns can optimise for landing page views instead of link clicks, which tends to bring visitors who wait for the page to load. For stores, that still isn't the same as optimising for buyers. Use landing page views to diagnose, and the Sales objective with a Purchase event to buy sales. See campaign objective for why.

How to improve the rate

  1. Test the landing page on a mid-range phone over mobile data, not office Wi-Fi.
  2. Remove redirects between the ad URL and the final page, including link shorteners.
  3. Make sure the pixel loads early in the page, so slow scripts don't stop it firing.
  4. Check that the link in the ad goes to the right page, with working UTM parameters.

Once visits look healthy, the next step is the conversion rate from landing page view to purchase, which you can work out with the conversion rate calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What is a landing page view on Facebook ads?

It is a click on your ad link after which the destination page or Instant Experience loaded. For websites, Meta counts it when the Meta Pixel fires on the loaded page, so it is a closer measure of real visits than link clicks.

Do landing page views need the Meta Pixel?

For websites, Meta measures them through the pixel firing on the page, so a missing or broken pixel means missing landing page views. Install the pixel on every page your ads link to, and pair it with the Conversions API for purchases.

What is a good landing page view rate?

Meta doesn't publish a benchmark and the rate varies by audience, device and country. Compare against your own history. A large or sudden gap between link clicks and landing page views usually points to page speed, redirects or tracking, not to the ad.

Should I optimise for landing page views or purchases?

If you sell online and your pixel records purchases, optimise for purchases. Landing page view optimisation finds people who visit, which is useful for building retargeting pools but not the same as finding buyers.
