Advantage+ sales campaigns are Meta's automated option for the Sales objective. You tell Meta what counts as a result (usually a website purchase), how much to spend and which creative to use. Meta's AI decides who sees the ads, where they appear and how budget moves between them. They replaced Advantage+ shopping campaigns, and the old shorthand, ASC, has stuck.
What you control vs what Meta automates
| You decide | Meta decides |
|---|---|
| Countries, budget and schedule | Who sees each ad, through Advantage+ audience |
| The conversion event (usually Purchase) and attribution setting | Where ads appear, through Advantage+ placements |
| Creative: images, videos, copy and catalogue | How budget shifts between ad sets and ads |
| Bid strategy: highest volume, cost per result goal or ROAS goal | Which creative combination each person sees |
| Audience suggestions and any exclusions Meta allows | When to spend through the day |
You give up most targeting and placement levers. In return, Meta can search all of its inventory for buyers. Your influence shifts to what Meta can't create for you: clean conversion data, a realistic budget and strong creative.
How it differs from a manual sales campaign
When you create a Sales campaign in Ads Manager, Meta now starts you with its automation switched on: Advantage+ campaign budget, Advantage+ audience and Advantage+ placements. While those stay on, Ads Manager labels the campaign as Advantage+. Swap audience or placements for manual choices and you're running a manual sales campaign instead.
When it works (and when it doesn't)
It tends to suit brands that have:
- Reliable purchase tracking through the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, with value and currency on every Purchase event.
- Enough budget to feed the system a steady flow of conversions through the learning phase.
- A product with a broad potential market, where broad targeting has room to find buyers.
- Several genuinely different creatives: different angles, hooks and formats, not colour swaps.
It struggles with brand-new pixels, very small budgets, tiny or highly specialised markets, and goals such as "new customers only" that need tighter control than Meta allows.
How to set one up
- In Events Manager, confirm Purchase events arrive with value and currency, and that browser and server events are deduplicated.
- Create a campaign with the Sales objective, keep the Advantage+ settings on, and choose your website as the conversion location and Purchase as the event.
- Set a daily budget that can buy several purchases a week at your target cost. The Meta ads budget calculator works this out for you.
- Add four to eight distinct creatives with your strongest copy.
- Publish, then leave it alone for about a week and judge it on 7-day trends, not daily swings.
If you'd rather not build it by hand, Fly ROAS can create the campaign, ad set and ads inside your own ad account, paused by default so nothing spends until you switch it on.
Common mistakes
- Editing too early. Big budget jumps and creative swaps during learning restart the clock.
- Too few creatives. Automation can only choose between the options you give it.
- Ignoring returning customers. A strong ROAS can hide weak growth, so compare spend on existing buyers with new-customer numbers in your store.
- Overlapping campaigns. Several broad campaigns selling the same product compete in the same auctions. Our guide to CBO vs ABO covers cleaner structures.
Frequently asked questions
Are Advantage+ shopping campaigns still available?
Advantage+ shopping campaigns were folded into Advantage+ sales campaigns, so new e-commerce campaigns are created through the Sales objective. Older campaigns may still carry legacy labels in reporting. The idea is unchanged: Meta automates audience, placements and budget while you supply the creative and the conversion goal.
Can I exclude existing customers from an Advantage+ sales campaign?
Meta has changed its existing-customer controls several times. Depending on your account, you may be able to define existing customers from customer lists and pixel audiences, see how spend splits between new and returning buyers, and limit or exclude them. Check the audience section of the campaign in Ads Manager for what's currently offered.
How much budget does an Advantage+ sales campaign need?
Enough to produce a steady flow of purchases, because the system learns from conversions. Meta's learning phase looks for about 50 optimisation events in a week, so the closer your budget gets to that at your target cost per purchase, the faster the campaign settles. If that's out of reach, expect a longer and noisier learning period.
