Fly ROAS vs Meta Advantage+ on Its Own: Do You Need a Tool?

Meta Advantage+ automates audience, budget, placements and creative variations inside Ads Manager at no extra cost. It does not decide what your ads say, how much you can afford per sale, or when a test has failed. This page compares running Advantage+ yourself with adding Fly ROAS, using Meta's own pages checked on 26 October 2026.

The short answer

Advantage+ on its own suits advertisers with a steady supply of strong creatives, clear margins and the time to review results and refresh ads every week. Fly ROAS suits D2C brands that want the work around Advantage+ handled: brand-true creatives from real product photos, a launch in one click and tests stopped or scaled by rules inside caps they set.

At a glance

Meta Advantage+ is the name for Meta's built-in automation. In Meta's developer documentation, a campaign counts as an Advantage+ campaign when three levers are on: Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ campaign budget and Advantage+ placements. Advantage+ creative sits alongside them and can enhance or generate ad variations. Meta has also renamed Advantage+ shopping campaigns to Advantage+ sales campaigns. All of it is free to use: you pay only for ad spend.

So the honest answer is that many advertisers do fine with Advantage+ on its own. What Advantage+ does not do is the work around the campaign: deciding what to say, producing enough on-brand creatives to feed it, knowing what a sale is worth to you, and deciding when to stop a losing test or scale a winner. That is the gap any tool, agency or freelancer fills, and it is the gap Fly ROAS was built for.

What does Advantage+ do on its own?

  • Audience. Advantage+ audience takes your audience suggestions (custom audiences, lookalikes, age, gender, interests) and looks beyond them for likely buyers. Location, minimum age, languages and exclusions remain as controls. See broad vs interest vs lookalike targeting.
  • Budget. Advantage+ campaign budget, formerly campaign budget optimisation, sets one budget at campaign level and moves it between ad sets. Ad set minimums and maximums limit how far it shifts.
  • Placements. Advantage+ placements lets Meta deliver across Facebook, Instagram and its other placements rather than the ones you pick.
  • Creative. Advantage+ creative can add text generation, image expansion, image generation, image animation, video expansion for Reels and background generation for catalogue ads. Meta says some enhancements may be on by default, lets you preview samples before publishing and lets you turn enhancements off at any time.
  • Testing inside a campaign. Meta says an Advantage+ sales campaign can test up to 150 creative combinations and favour the best performers.

What does Advantage+ leave to you?

  • The creatives themselves. Advantage+ works from the assets you give it. Generated variations can help, but your packshot, offer and message still come from you. Weak inputs give weak results. Our ad fatigue guide explains why fresh creative matters every few weeks.
  • Your economics. Meta optimises towards the result you choose within the budget you set. It does not know your margins, so it cannot tell you that a cost per purchase is above your break-even ROAS.
  • When to stop and when to scale. Inside a campaign, Meta shifts delivery towards better ads. Whether a whole test has failed, or whether to raise a winner's budget and by how much, is your call or a rule you write in Ads Manager. See automated rules vs AI.
  • Brand checks. AI-generated variations need your review. Meta itself recommends checking previews and turning off any that don't fit.

Where Fly ROAS adds to Advantage+

Fly ROAS does not replace Meta's delivery system. It launches into your own Meta ad account, so Meta still runs the auction and finds the people. What it adds is the work around that:

  • Creatives from your real product photos. Brand DNA reads your logo, colours, fonts, products, prices and voice from your website in about 90 seconds. Every ad is built on your real packshot, and a pre-flight check flags any ad where the label, text or colours drift.
  • Competitor angles. The competitor radar decodes hooks, layouts and angles from competitors' long-running Meta Ad Library ads, without copying them.
  • A written testing method. Autopilot gives each test a 48-hour verdict, by default stops a test that spends 2× your target CPA without a sale (adjustable from 1.5× to 3×), and scales winners in +25%, +50% or +100% steps.
  • Caps and approvals. A monthly cap and daily limit only you can raise, and a default "Ask me first" mode where nothing launches or scales without your approval.

What does each cost?

Advantage+ costs nothing beyond your ad spend. The real cost is your time, plus whatever you pay for photography, design or video to keep creatives fresh.

Fly ROAS starts with a 14-day test flight at $19.99 (₹1,939) with 100 credits, then Creator at $79/mo (₹7,663) with 400 credits, Pro at $149/mo (₹14,453) with 1,000 credits, Agency at $499/mo (₹48,403) with 4,000 credits or a custom Enterprise plan. Annual billing saves 20%. Credits pay only for AI generation: 2 per image ad and 20 per video ad. Autopilot is included in every plan, and Meta bills your ad spend directly.

Worked example: say you need 30 new image ads a month to keep two campaigns fresh, and each takes a designer an hour. Price that hour at your own rate and compare it with Creator at $79 a month, where 30 image ads use 60 of 400 credits. If you already have a designer with spare time and you enjoy running tests, Advantage+ on its own may be the better deal.

Who should choose which

Stay with Advantage+ on its own if you have strong creatives, clear margins, time each week to review results, and a budget where software would be a large share of spend.

Add Fly ROAS if creative production or test discipline is your bottleneck, you want your exact packshot in every ad, and you want hard limits on spend with every decision written down.

Trying Fly ROAS

The 14-day test flight costs $19.99 (₹1,939) and includes 100 credits (about 50 image ads), one brand and every feature: Brand DNA, competitor radar, AI creatives, one-click launch and Autopilot. Campaigns are created paused by default. There is no free tier or money-back guarantee, and the test flight renews to Creator unless you cancel. Compare every plan on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a tool if I use Meta Advantage+?

Not necessarily. Advantage+ automates audience, budget, placements and creative variations at no extra cost. What it leaves to you is producing enough strong creatives, knowing your break-even cost per sale, and deciding when to stop or scale tests. If you handle those well, Advantage+ on its own can be enough.

Is Advantage+ free?

Yes. Advantage+ audience, campaign budget, placements and creative are part of Ads Manager. You pay Meta only for the ad spend itself. Fly ROAS is a paid subscription on top of ad spend, starting with a 14-day test flight at $19.99 (₹1,939).

Does Fly ROAS replace Advantage+?

No. Fly ROAS launches campaigns into your own Meta ad account, so Meta's delivery system still runs the auction and finds the audience. Fly ROAS adds the work around it: Brand DNA, creatives built on your real product photos, competitor research, and Autopilot testing inside caps you set.

Can Advantage+ creative make ads from my product photos?

Advantage+ creative can enhance the images and videos you upload and generate variations, including new text, expanded images and backgrounds for catalogue ads. Meta recommends previewing AI-generated samples before you publish and turning off any enhancement that doesn't suit your brand.

What happened to Advantage+ shopping campaigns?

Meta renamed them Advantage+ sales campaigns. Its developer documentation now treats a sales campaign as Advantage+ when Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ campaign budget and Advantage+ placements are all on. Our Advantage+ sales campaigns guide explains the set-up in detail.
